RSTS Technician Sr
Position Description: The Range Safety and Instrumentation System (RSTS) Technician SR is a small team management level position responsible for the high-level maintenance and operations of the Alaska Aerospace (AAC) RSTS instrumentation systems. The position is expected to perform the duties required for on-site personnel and system operations management at remote deployed locations at the direction of senior RSTS staff to support various missions and deployments. The RSTS systems are mobile and fixed rocket flight safety and telemetry systems operated by AAC in Kodiak and remote/overseas locations.
This is a Full-Time position located in Kodiak, AK; schedule varies depending on site operational needs and flexibility is required. Extensive travel up to 50% to overseas and remote locations worldwide can be expected.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
1. Manage a small team of technicians, providing guidance, training, and support for the maintenance and operations of RSTS instrumentation systems.
2. Oversee and participate in the periodic and emergency maintenance of systems, ensuring proper upkeep and functionality.
3. Develop and update operational and maintenance procedures for RSTS telemetry systems.
4. Coordinate with other departments and teams to ensure smooth operation of RSTS systems during missions and deployments.
5. Conduct regular cleaning and upkeep of system spaces and components.
6. Provide hands-on experience in operating safety critical ground-based flight support systems as needed.
7. Participate in meetings, planning sessions, and quality management activities related to RSTS operations.
8. Manage deployment logistics for mobile telemetry systems at remote locations with limited support.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of management experience in a related technical field.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Experience in team and personnel management.
- Advanced knowledge in computer networking, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software for system design.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems and perform maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity with high power RF transmitters and electronic safety procedures.
- Competence in operating and maintaining electronic, computer, and mechanical systems, including emergency maintenance.
- Knowledge of office productivity software, Microsoft Windows, and Office Suite.
- Understanding of electric generation sets, diesel engines, and use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to follow OSHA safety guidelines and communicate clearly with diverse audiences.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team, multitask, and adapt in dynamic environments.
- Willingness to travel for extended periods and work extended hours, including overtime and weekends.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willing and able to work extended hours, overtime, and on weekends, as required by mission milestones.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance; existing clearance preferred.
